Paragon Ragtime Orchestra

NOVEMBER 7, 2015

Travel back to the early 1900s as our modern world begins. The USA begins her love affairs with automobiles, electricity, flying machines take to the sky and vaudeville creates American idols. Join the PARAGON RAGTIME ORCHESTRA as it brings to life the thrilling sounds of Scott Joplin, “King of Ragtime Writers”, and his ingenious cohorts as they invent “America’s Original Music.”   Paragon Ragtime Orchestra is the world’s only year-round, professional ensemble re-creating “America’s Original Music” – the syncopated sounds of early musical theater, silent cinema, and vintage dance.

Paragon Ragtime Orchestra came about as a result of Director Rick Benjamin’s 1985 discovery of thousands of turn of the century music scores. In 1988 PRO made its formal debut in Lincoln Center at the Alice Tully Hall, the first concert by an ensemble of this type of music. Since then PRO has appeared in countless venues, including the Ravinia Festival, Smithsonian Institute, New York Chautauqua, and American Dance Festival. In 2006 PRO was honored to be the guest musicians with the Minnesota Orchestra. Over the years, Paragon Ragtime Orchestra has been heard on many soundtracks of motion pictures and television programs.
